International  Bass  Lake  Resort

Many folks think our Lake is called Bass Lake.   Wrong, it is officially Lake Davenport.   From a game fishing standpoint Lake Davenport is very sick.  There are not  many Bass but an excess of catfish, gars and bowfin.   These are considered garbage fish.  In 1994 one of our past residents contacted the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission.   He learned that in 1988 the Division of Fisheries, at the request of the developers of Bass Lake, conducted a limited study of the Lake.   It determined that the lake is not a prime bass fishing and probably never would be.
Lake Davenport was probably created several hundred years ago as a sink hole developed during a drought period.  In reality it is nothing more than a large bowl shaped hole.   The bottom is almost entirely void of structure.   It is spring fed with one drainage canal that the excess water to the east.
The bottom of the lake has about one foot of sludge covering almost the entire bottom, created from dead vegetation.  The darken water is actually known as "tannic-acid water", caused by decaying cypress leaves.   The high acid content prevents a lot of plant growth in the water.

About International Bass Lake Resort
This  little gem of a community  is in the heart of central Florida and is close to everything yet is a quiet and peaceful place to live or just spend your down time. This gated community is very safe and friendly for young and senior's alike. Bass Lake is not a 55 and older community.  We have a great fishing pier that is on the banks of a 300 + acre lake named "OLD LAKE DAVENPORT" where you can catch Large Mouth Bass, Catfish, Bluegill, Gar and more.  There is a boat ramp for residents only, a picnic area with tables, benches and grilling stands.

Residents can enjoy a peaceful walk or a gentle ride on there golf cart, swim in the two pools or relax in the hot tub. Our clubhouse has two pool tables, TV lounge area, small fitness room, library, upstairs card room and community hall that has some activities. The H.O.A. office is in the clubhouse and is open five days a week Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.  Each winter we welcome back our "snow-birds", many old faces and some new, all are welcome because that's when the activities "kick up a notch" with bingo, dinners, dances, ladies lunch,  cards and  much more. Very close to Bass Lake are some of the best golf courses in Florida, a nice park next door with a dog run and we are close to good restaurants, shops, flea markets, cinemas and of course "Walt Disney World".
